Colorado Gun Owners must turn out to their precinct caucus

Dear gun rights supporter,

I’m writing this letter today because I desperately need your help.

In the last decade our gun rights have taken a beating.

I’ve done my part, leading Colorado's only real statewide pro-gun group, Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, to defeat gun control and defend our rights in the Colorado Legislature.

Now, I’m asking you to do your part.

For the first time in Colorado history, anti-gun groups are making headway in Colorado, and particularly in the Republican Party.

You can bet they will do their part to stack the caucuses with anti-gun liberals, all in an effort to destroy the pro-gun faction within the Republican Party.  I aim to stop them.

If you’re the type of gun rights supporter who is afraid to speak, afraid to let people know how you feel, this letter isn’t for you.

But if you boldly believe that all citizens are endowed with rights from God, and recognized by the U.S. Constitution, you can’t afford to miss this battle.

In just a few days, on Tuesday, March 16th, precinct caucuses will be held in living rooms, churches and schools across our state.

And if gun owners and gun rights supporters show up in large numbers, we can send a real message to politicians and candidates: keep your hands off our gun rights.

After the Columbine tragedy, we all saw the State Capitol do a 180-degree turn on gun rights, even though public opinion polls had not changed.  That trend hasn’t changed.

They got caught up in the hysteria created by the liberal media, and they didn’t stop to think if it was the right thing to do – only if it was expedient.

There are a few of us who have not wavered in our support of the Second Amendment, and won’t waver, regardless of the pressure.

Don’t you think it is time to put the pressure back where it belongs: in favor of our Constitutional rights, not against them?

We can do that by forcing the Republican Party – and any political party, for that matter – to stand firmly in favor of our Constitutional gun rights.

Precinct caucuses are the best way for a citizen to get involved in setting public policy, at the grassroots level.

And this year, where every indicator shows that citizens dedicated to the Constitution -- like Tea Party and liberty activists -- are going to turn out in record numbers, it is the perfect time to swell our numbers by turning out every gun owner we can.

Because so very few people normally get involved in the precinct caucuses, just a few citizens have an enormous sway over the political process.

What kind of effect can the precinct caucuses have?  If gun owners get elected as delegates to their county conventions, Congressional Assemblies or the State Republican convention, we can make a huge difference.

To have the most impact you show up to your precinct caucus on Tuesday, March 16th at 7 pm with a few friends – they’re your built-in votes.  And there may be other gun rights supporters there.

The key is to pass the enclosed resolution, and to get elected as a delegate to higher conventions.  In other words, stuff these conventions with gun rights supporters.

Now, party bosses can ignore the resolution, but not if hundreds of caucuses around the state have passed them.

The nice part is that party bosses and members will be forced to choose -– pro-freedom, or anti-gun –- and will find it difficult to straddle the fence.

Right away, elected officials will feel the heat and see the light.  There is nothing like a legislator’s core constituency, energized by an issue and armed with the truth, to lobby them or even throw them out of office.

This project is not easy: it takes at least a few dedicated voters to start the ball rolling.  And it takes the enormous effort of a savvy group like Rocky Mountain Gun Owners to organize it.  But once it gets rolling, it will be difficult for the anti-gunners to stop.

However, the ball only starts rolling if you push it.  And you can’t push it if you don’t show up on March 16th.

     That’s D-Day for gun owners.

And RMGO is the landing craft to get us on the beach.

Here at RMGO, we don't wait for things to happen, we make things happen.

And stuffing the caucuses with pro-gun voters is the kind of thing that really makes a difference.

I am committed to winning this battle for our gun rights: are you?

I need you to do these two things right away, before you forget or get too busy:

-- Indicate whether you plan to attend your March 16th Precinct Caucus to sponsor  the enclosed Pro-Gun Resolution (a pdf version at this link or use the below version at the end of this e-mail).  If we get enough voters running this resolution, the Republican party will be forced to deal with our issue at their state convention

-- Send your most generous contribution possible to Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, to be used to get more citizens involved in defending our gun rights.  You can donate to this program by clicking here

Please send $100, $75, $50, $25, or whatever you can afford for this fight for freedom.  You can donate by clicking here

This program could be the single most effective program to put pressure on lawmakers at every level.

It is also expensive, and I, for one, am proud to be a part of Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, which is the only pro-gun group in this state that has the guts to do it.

But we need your help to do it.  Your donation of $25, $50, $75 or even $100 is desperately needed to push this battle from the precinct caucus level all the way to the State Convention process.  You can donate by clicking here

A contribution of just $25 allows us to activate another 75 voters – enough to pass pro-gun resolutions in more than 10 precincts.  And a contribution of $100 is even more efficient, allowing us to win in 60 precincts.

It’s the kind of program that scares anti-gun liberals because they know we have the numbers, and we don’t have to use the media to get out our message.  We can do it at the lowest level – the precinct caucuses – and it simply can’t be ignored by political activists.

Time is short.  I hope and pray you will answer this call to battle.

Best regards,

Dudley Brown
Executive Director

P.S. You can strike an enormous blow for gun rights if you will attend your March 16th precinct caucus and sponsor the enclosed Pro-Gun Resolution.

And, if you can, donate to Rocky Mountain Gun Owners with a contribution of $25, $50, $75 or even $100 to aid this crucial program by clicking here.

Rocky Mountain Gun Owners
“Keep the GOP Pro-Gun"

A Resolution

Whereas, our founding fathers recognized our God-given right to keep and bear arms in the Bill of Rights; and,

Whereas, the Colorado Constitution also recognizes that right; and,

Whereas, any gun controls which infringe on the ability of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms have no place in a free society; therefore,

Be it resolved, that this precinct hereby urges all Republican candidates and elected officials to oppose all forms of gun control and support the right to keep and bear arms, and further urges the Republican Party to only support candidates who stand firmly for our 2nd Amendment freedoms.
