Another Gun Control Legislation Alert

Last Tuesday, the House Health, Insurance, and Environment Committee passed anti-gun Democrat Rep. Beth McCann’s so-called Mental Health Task Force (HB 1306) on a 6-5 party line vote.

The bill will now head to the floor of the Colorado House of Representatives soon.

While Rep. McCann says that this bill will not take away anyone’s Second Amendment rights, don’t forget the fact that she was either the prime sponsor of or sponsored much of the anti-gun legislation that was passed earlier this legislative session.

If this so-called task force passes, you can be sure that the gun-grabbers will stack it with their allies and recommend more gun control to be forced upon Coloradans.

Any “mental health” legislation that the gun-grabbers propose has one purpose: stripping more honest, law-abiding citizens of their gun rights.

Nearly 60 million Americans suffer each year from a diagnosable mental illness, including PTSD, ADHD, or even simply having an eating disorder. In addition, the National Institute of Mental Health claims that 46% of Americans will develop a mental illness at some point in their life.

After the gun grabbers pass this so-called task force and get their hands on your private medical records, how long do you think it will be before these individuals will lose their Second Amendment rights?

Don’t believe me? Well, it’s already happened in New York under the SAFE Act, and you better believe it can happen here.

During the committee hearing, the representative from the Fraternal Order of Police, testifying in support of the task force, even went as far to mention that they wanted access to your private health records.

It’s no wonder why many groups and experts in the field of mental health showed up to oppose this bill -- they know that any task force and the resulting legislation will negatively impact how they treat mental health problems.

In addition to the gun grabbers violating your privacy, they will fundamentally alter the doctor-patient relationship, and discourage those who need help the most from seeking it out by further stigmatizing them.

In short, we need to stop this task force in its tracks.

Respectfully tell them to vote NO on Rep. McCann’s so-called Mental Health Task Force (HB 1306).

Let them know that Coloradans will not accept compromise on our gun rights, not even under the guise of mental health legislation or through a task force.

Remember, this bill could arrive on the floor of the House any day now, so don’t hesitate to call them!

Thank you for your firm commitment to the right to keep and bear arms.
